JOIN US FOR THE PARADE, AUGUST 1, 2015!

Drivers, Family & Fans,

Please plan to join us this Saturday to march in the parade and promote the Soap Box Derby. You can meet us on the north side of Thrifty Foods on Lein Street. Look for a truck hauling a trailer of Soap Box Derby Cars. Plan to be there between 10:30 & 10:45. The parade starts at 11am. Please have the drivers wear their Soap Box Derby T-shirts. I will also have Soap Box Derby T-shirts for the adults as long as they last. The following volunteer opportunities are available for drivers and adults;

  1. Walk at the front of the truck and trailer and carry the Soap Box Derby banner (2)
  2. Walk at the front of the truck and trailer and carry a Soap Box Derby flag (2)
  3. Ride in a Soap Box Derby car on the trailer and wave a flag (3)
  4. Walk the parade and pass out candy (8)
  5. Ride in the back of the truck and wave to the fans.

Next stop Akron Ohio!

Congratulations 2015 Windermere Stanwood Camano Island Soap Box Derby Champions Ronan Johnson and Barric Danielson. Ronan competed against twenty-five other racers for the Super Stock Car Championship. Barric won the Stock Car Championship competing against twenty-two other racers. The local Champions are headed for Akron to compete in the All-American Soap Box Derby on July 25th. Nine year old Logan Naplin, a first time racer received the much deserved Sportsmanship award. The Best in Show awards, voted on by the Soap Box Derby drivers went to the Davis Place Teen Center Super Stock car driven by Madison Hurtubise and the Crab Cracker Stock car driven by Teddy Shipley.

Countdown to Derby Day!

Drivers, Family and Fans,

Countdown to Derby Day!

A copy of the race day schedule will be available at Final Inspection. Mandatory check-in and weight-in on race day is from 7:30am-8:30 am. There is a mandatory driver/car handler meeting at 8:30 am, opening ceremonies at 8:45 am and racing begins at 9 am. Bring your canopy and cooler and plan to spend the day. The Stanwood Senior Center will be having a Pancake Breakfast (and Biscuits & Gravy) starting at 7:30 am. The cost is $5 for adults and youth. A free sack lunch for the drivers and free water for the drivers throughout the day will be available at the Drivers Tent.

We can always use volunteers to help with the set-up in the morning. We will be on the track at 5:30 am if you would like to join us. Please contact me if you have questions.

Last Build Clinic & Pictures Due-Thursday June 4th

Racers, Family and Fans,

The last Build Clinic of the season is Thursday June 4th 6-8 pm at the old Ace Hardware Building by the Stanwood Cinemas, (7005 265th Street NW). If you have not had your picture taken for the Soap Box Derby Program this will be your last opportunity before we go to print. Please bring a copy of your Driver’s Birth Certificate and your $25 registration fee if you haven’t already done so.  We will be having a Drive Clinic for new drivers on Thursday June 11th from 6-8 Pm at Rekdal Road on Camano Island. You do not need to bring your car. We will provide the cars. Parking is limited. Park at the Camano Dental Office.

We will be doing the Final Inspection and Impound on Tuesday June 16th and Wednesday June 17th. You can schedule your appointment this week at the Build Clinic. The cars must be completely assembled and aligned with the correct weights prior to impound. The Driver and the Car Handler both need to be at the Impound.

The Drivers Banquet is Thursday June 18th 6-8 PM at the Bonnie Cole Building at the Stanwood Fair Grounds. All Drivers and their car Handlers are encouraged to attend to get the Driver’s T-shirts, the Race Day Schedule and review Race Rules and Protocols. Drivers are Free, family members and fans $5.00 (Pay at the door). Pre-registration required. There will be a sign up at the Build Clinic or you can RSVP to my email.

The race is Saturday June 20th. The race day starts for Drivers and their Car Handlers at 7:30 am. We race until approximately 6pm so plan to bring your canopy and cooler and spend the day.

Register by June 1st for the 8th Annual Windermere Stanwood Camano Island Soap Box Derby!

Drivers, Family and Fans,

The 8th Annual Windermere Stanwood Camano Island Soap Box Derby is less the one month away.

We have lots of drivers assembling their cars at Soap Box Derby Headquarters every Thursday night from 6-8 pm. It is an awesome sight. Lots of new drivers. Stop by and check it out. We still have Stock and Super Stock cars available to loan. If you know someone that would like  to participate in this fun family event and compete for the opportunity to represent their community at the International Soap Box Derby race in Akron , Ohio please forward this information.

If you are planning on racing but haven’t turned in your registration please do so by June 1st. I will be placing the order for the Drivers T-shirts on June 1st and we want to get all the drivers names on the T-shirts. Drivers are required to wear their official 2015 Soap Box Derby T-shirt the day of the race.

 Final Inspection and Impound for all of the cars will be Tuesday June 16th and Wednesday June 17th  6pm-8pm at Soap Box Derby Headquarters. This is mandatory for all drivers. Next Build Clinic, Thursday April 23rd

Drivers, Family and Fans,

Welcome to all the new drivers that signed up to race this year at our first Build Clinic. We look forward to seeing you at the Build Clinic this week to start working on your cars.

The next Build Clinic is this Thursday April 23rd at the old Ace Hardware Building by the Stanwood Cinemas, (7005 265th Street NW). Please plan to come by and get registered for this year’s race. You’re welcome to bring your cars to start working on them. Please remember to bring a copy of the building plans for your car. The plans can be downloaded from the Soap Box Derby website at www.aasbd.org. The plans also include a list of the tools that you will need. If you are unable to download the plans you can stop by the Resource Center and we will make you a copy. If you have sawhorses or a table please bring that for working on your car.

If you are interested in borrowing and driving a sponsored car this year we will be doing sign-ups and assigning cars at the clinic.

Please plan to come by and get registered for this year’s race. Your welcome to bring your cars to start working on them. If you are interested in borrowing and driving a sponsored car this year we will be doing sign-ups and assigning cars at the clinic. If you drove a sponsored car last year and would like to drive the same car this year please let me know prior to April 16th. Welcome Back! – 8th Annual Windermere Stanwood Camano Island Soap Box Derby

Spring is in the air and so is the anticipated smells of car wax and burning brake pads. It is Soap Box Derby Season once again.
 
We would like to welcome you back to the 8th Annual Windermere Stanwood Camano Island Soap Box Derby. The race this year will be on Saturday June 20th. Build and Drive Clinics will be starting soon. Please let us know if you are planning on participating in this year’s race. We would like to hear from returning drivers and new drivers as well.
